CQC Registration for Dental Practices:

From 1st April 2011 all dental practices in England, both NHS and private, will be required to register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in order to continue to operate.

The process of registering practices began in the last quarter of 2010 with gathering of information from both the NHS and private sector about the locations and services provided by each practice.

You should be aware that this is a legal requirement and is in addition to any other registrations which you currently hold. Anyone providing dental treatment in England must be registered by the 1st April.

The process of registration begins with the submission of an application pack containing details of the practice, all of its locations and details of all of the regulated activities provided at each of those locations. Providers are also required to submit details of the person who will hold the CQC registration (the Registered Persons - including the Registered Manager where appropriate).  Practices will be required to declare compliance with the new Essential Standards for Quality and Safety. The CQC has now begun the process of Pre-Registration for Dental Practices. Practices can now submit basic details to the CQC and obtain an enrolment number to identify themselves for the full registration process which will commence in the next few weeks. You are advised to submit this information now.
